So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:

NASCAR 06: Total Team Control introduces the Total Team Control mechanic that allows you to tell your teammates what to do and even switch cars during the race. It also makes the last video game appearance for Carl Edwards, at least for the next two seasons.

Unused Drivers

Data for the following unused drivers can be found. Note that Bill Elliott is the only cut driver to have a driver selection portrait - all other cut drivers use a blank texture in place of their portrait. All other drivers have car textures as well as driver menu entries, paint scheme selector strings, and number fonts for menus.

  • Bill Elliott (Cup Series, #91, 2005 Stanley Dodge)
Bill Elliott also appears in some of the game's tutorial videos, indicating that he was cut late in the game's development, due to the aforementioned additional assets not found for any of the unused drivers.
  • Randy LaJoie (Busch Series, #34, 2005 Dollar General Chevrolet)
Burney Lamar's paint scheme in NASCAR 07 would later be based on LaJoie's, as LaJoie's #34 is present on Lamar's car texture in the aforementioned game.
  • Jason Keller (Busch Series, #35, 2005 McDonald's Ford)
  • Jack Sprague (Craftsman Truck Series, #16, 2004? Chevy Trucks Truck)
Sprague's vehicle appears to be a leftover from NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup, as it is his 2004 paint scheme.

It is worth noting that Sprague's team, Xpress Motorsports, does not have a proper team logo graphic, and instead uses the Custom Car placeholder logo.

Unused Tracks

NYC Prologue

The seperate version of New York Metro Speedway (with full name of New York Interactive Prologue) used in the prologue of NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup is still present in the game, with race name of simply "Prologue".

  • The race is set to be only one lap long, as CFTC's prologue was a one-lapper. If distance other than 100% is set, the lap count will appear to be zero.
  • Because the pit lane is blocked off, it is not possible to play practice or qualifying.
  • Opponent cars cannot move from the "standing" starting grid (with rolling start speed set to zero). This is because CFTC's prologue race is also a standing start race. Due to the way the grid is lined up, the player must also reverse at start to escape the AI gridlock. Even if the player uses Total Team Control's Swap Cars to switch to a teammate and switching back, AI cars will also not move.

Lowe's Motor Speedway (Day)

A daytime version of the-then Lowe's Motor Speedway is also present in the game, unused since NASCAR moved the fall Charlotte race to Saturday night in 2003 and EA did not offer that version of the track as an unlockable.

Atlanta Motor Speedway

An unused duplicate of the Atlanta Motor Speedway is also present in the game, with barely any noticeable difference to the used one.

Oddities

Hmmm...
To do:
Several drivers have uncensored Busch Series logos (namely Erin Crocker, and the Busch Series versions of Matt Kenseth and Bobby Labonte).

Toyota Branding

Although none of the Truck Series vehicles feature manufacturer branding, which means Toyota is not represented anywhere else throughout the game (until NASCAR 08, when Toyota finally entered the top two series), the portraits for Shigeaki Hattori, Bill Lester, and Chad Chaffin has visible Toyota branding on their firesuit, typically obscured by the their truck in the driver selection screen. Brandon Whitt also has a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) branding visible on his firesuit.

Name Confusion

Should J.J. Johnson, a fantasy driver, appear on the grid of a Cup Series race, his name will be listed as "J. Johnson" in the result screens. This can lead to a confusion, as if there are two Jimmie Johnsons on the race while there is actually only one, as car numbers, the other way to identify who's who, are not shown in that screen/list. The game's name handler for the result screens were also not updated to reflect Kyle Busch's promotion to the Cup Series (his brother Kurt also uses the same letter for his given name), so the result screens will list two "K. Busch" in the standings list.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car used in the prologue cutscene (which is an FMV) appears to be based on the car he had in NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup (and other censored merchandise, such as diecasts, produced for the 2003 and 2004 seasons), as the car used features the JR Motorsports-style Dale Earnhardt Jr. logo on the hood and rear quarter panels. Earnhardt's in-game car (and his non-alcohol merchandise for the 2005 to 2007 seasons, including his subsequent appearances in other EA Sports NASCAR games for those seasons) uses Dale Earnhardt, Inc. team logo and signature on the hood and rear quarter panels, respectively, with the Dale Jr. text logo in the JR Motorsports font used only on the rear.
